Brick Cleaning London
Pointing by Tony Wallace is a specialist brickwork company based in London. One of the main services we provide is brick cleaning homes and properties in London and surrounding counties. When undertaking an exterior renovation or restoration project, brick cleaning in London is usually a consideration and quite rightly so. It not only cleanses your brickwork of permeated grime, stains and dirt, it provides protection and brings it back to its original splendour.
Although the brick cleaning process is quite simple, it is classed as a specialist trade. The reason being, experience, expertise and skill are required to ensure no further damage is caused and the cleaning method is applied evenly across all brickwork. Brick cleaning should not be undertaken by an amateur to prevent further impairment.
As mentioned earlier, brick cleaning is a simple process that entails a great deal of manual labour. Pointing by Tony Wallace has a tried and tested procedure used for many years that has proven to be the safest and least harmful method.
Our brick cleaning process summed up in 5 simple steps:
1. Protect non-brick areas with plastic sheeting e.g. windows, doors, architectural features, etc.
2. Wash off the surface layer of dirt and grime
3. Pressure wash brickwork with chemical solution and warm water
4. Scrub stubborn stains with hard bristle brush and diluted solution
5. Seal with water resistant solution
At Pointing by Tony Wallace we favour the pressure washer method as one of the safest brick cleaning methods. With experience the pressure washer can be used on a low pressure and turned up to deal with more challenging areas. Not only is experience needed here for machinery used, skill is required in the technique necessary to create an even tone across all brickwork and to avoid further damage. We use a mild chemical formula mixed with water for the saturated stubborn stains.
During this brick cleaning process, we may find loose bricks or mortar joints. We are able to repair and/or replace the damaged bricks with similar type bricks and cut out damaged mortar and reapply with new matching mortar, before the brick cleaning process begins. The client will be informed of any additional unforeseen work and agreements made before embarking upon.
For most exterior renovation projects, a good quality sealant is used. Once brick cleaning is completed and the property brickwork is dry, a sealant will be applied by brush evenly across all brick and mortar joints. As brick is a porous substance, the sealant protects the brickwork from constant weathering adding a layer of water resistance. It also helps keep the brickwork looking brand new and bright for longer.
